WSOI aims for evidence-based objectivity: the strength and quality of evidence determine how claims are presented.
Evidence first
When practical, WSOI prioritizes primary documents, official records, direct statements, court filings, datasets, transcripts and original footage. Credible firsthand reporting and multiple reputable secondary reports provide additional support and context.
Facts, claims and uncertainty
Confirmed facts are stated directly. Allegations, disputed accounts and predictions are attributed. When the available evidence does not establish an answer, the article should say so plainly.
WSOI does not manufacture a 50/50 presentation when competing claims do not have equal support. It reports what the evidence supports while making meaningful disagreement and uncertainty visible.
Original reporting and synthesis
WSOI articles must be original works of synthesis. Facts learned from other publishers may be reported with appropriate attribution, but distinctive language, sequencing and framing should not be copied.
High-risk coverage
Stories involving unverified allegations, criminal accusations, minors, private individuals, graphic violence, public safety, elections or a meaningful risk of harm require additional human review before publication.
Accuracy and updates
Accuracy takes priority over speed. Names, dates, locations, figures, quotations and central claims should be checked before publication. Developing stories may be updated as facts change, and material corrections should be disclosed.
